Description
Picamartillo Cave is a natural site in Alquézar, in the province of Huesca, integrated in the environment of the Vero River Canyon and the Natural Park of the Sierra and Canyons of Guara. It is located in a landscape of karstic relief, modeled by the dissolution of limestone, where caves, shelters and rocky escarpments are frequent. The area is part of a protected area of great extension and recognized for its geological and scenic value. The most interesting part of your visit is the environment itself: limestone walls, walkways and trails that allow you to walk along a very appreciated section of the Vero River, with views over the canyon and the town of Alquézar. In this sector there are many elements of erosion and natural shelter, which explains the presence of caves such as Picamartillo and the attractiveness of the route for hiking. Its relevance is not only scenic, but also environmental, being within one of the largest protected areas of Aragon. In addition, the Vero canyon is a reference of the landscape of the Sierra de Guara for its geological interest and for concentrating well-known nature and mountain routes in Somontano.
