Les Coves de Sant Josep is a large karst system excavated in limestone and dolomites of the Triassic, with a gallery that can be visited in which a section on foot and another by boat are combined by a subway river. The visit goes through large caves, interior lakes, stalactites and other forms modeled by the dissolution of the rock and the continuous work of water for thousands of years. The main attraction is to navigate through one of the longest navigable subway rivers in Europe, in an environment of very stable temperature and with a feeling of silence difficult to find in other places. Among the rooms and sections of the route, names such as the Blue Lake or the Bat Room stand out, which help to identify the different areas of the cave. The place is located in the Paraje de Sant Josep, in La Vall d'Uixó, and is a classic reference of nature tourism in Castellón. In addition to the geological interest, it is associated with findings of ancient human occupation in the surroundings of the cave, which adds historical value to the site. The best time to visit it is outside the days of maximum affluence, with special advantage in low season and in the early hours of the day, when the experience is usually calmer. In summer it is advisable to book in advance because tickets are limited.
