Description

El Chorro de Los Ángeles is a small waterfall in the surroundings of Robledillo de Gata, in the Sierra de Gata in Cáceres, associated with the fluvial landscape that characterizes this municipality of traditional architecture and strong integration with its natural environment. It does not have a great height nor a monumental typology; it is a resource of modest scale, more valuable for its insertion in the landscape than for its dimensions. Its interest lies in the contrast between the moving water, the riverside vegetation and the mountain hamlet of Robledillo de Gata, declared an Asset of Cultural Interest as a Historic Site. In the municipality, the Árrago river and its derivations generate small waterfalls and water points very close to the urban center, which reinforces the perception of a town lived in continuity with the riverbed. As a visitable resource, it provides a scenic and photographic attraction, especially in walking tours around the immediate surroundings of the village. It also fits in the image of Robledillo de Gata as a destination of nature and heritage in the Sierra de Gata, where water is one of the elements that most distinguish the visit. The name "Chorro de Los Ángeles" appears in local tourist directories, which describe it as a small waterfall near the village. No specific figure of protection is documented here for the waterfall itself; its relevance derives above all from the natural and patrimonial complex in which it is inserted.

How to get there

By car: from Robledillo de Gata you have to leave by the tracks that connect with the area of Ovejuela/Las Hurdes; the consulted guides place the detour signposted on the road to Ovejuela and continue along a forest track of about 9-10 km to the surroundings of the viewpoint. Parking: the vehicle is left in the lay-bys or widenings near the final access; there is no specific formal parking area and several sources warn that a tall car is recommended. The trail: the viewpoint is very close to the viewpoint. Trail: the viewpoint is very close to the trail; if the complete route is done, a common reference is 9 km round trip, with easy difficulty, although the route is on a trail and with a sustained slope. Footwear: sneakers or hiking boots with grippy soles. Best season: autumn, winter and spring after rains. Warnings: forest track, possible passage of vehicles, no barriers at the viewpoint and access not always comfortable for low cars; extreme caution should be exercised on wet or foggy days.[9
