The Charco Verde de Guisando is a natural pool formed on the Pelayos River, located at the foot of the southern slope of the Sierra de Gredos, in the municipality of Guisando (Ávila, Castile and León). It is a pool of water nestled among granite rocks and tree-lined banks, with an intense greenish color resulting from its depth, the shade, and the surrounding riparian vegetation. It is a natural pool with crystal-clear, relatively calm waters, fed by the river’s flow and, in some sections, by a small waterfall that maintains the water flow even in summer. From the viewing point, you can see a small but very distinctive stretch of the river, featuring granite boulders, a bed of rounded stones, and a mountainous landscape near the village. The main attraction lies in the contrast between the pool, the riverside vegetation, and the immediate presence of the Sierra de Gredos in the background, creating a simple setting without major infrastructure. Swimming is permitted, making the site a traditional spot for rest and recreation during the warmer months. It is a simple spot, without its own facilities such as a beach bar or a developed swimming area, but it is very close to the village of Guisando, where there are restaurants serving traditional dishes and lodging options. Its significance stems from its traditional use as a swimming spot and its inclusion in guidebooks to the region’s natural pools, where it stands out for the cleanliness and emerald-green color of its waters. The best time to visit is during the warmer months, from June to September, when the water flow and temperature make for enjoyable swimming. In the spring, the surroundings offer a greener and more serene setting, with fewer visitors.
