The Cerro Masatrigo is an isolated hill with an almost conical profile, very recognizable because it juts out from the sheet of water of the La Serena reservoir. It is located in the municipality of Esparragosa de Lares, near Galizuela, and reaches an altitude of 501 m, with a very marked elevation above the immediate surroundings. Its rounded and symmetrical shape makes it a very photogenic geomorphological rarity and easy to identify in the Extremadura landscape. From the viewpoint and from the road that borders the hill, there is an open view of the reservoir, of the hills of La Siberia and, on clear days, of a very wide area of pastureland and gentle reliefs. The best known image is that of the hill as an "island" in the middle of the water, especially when the reservoir is high. It is also common to combine the visit with panoramic views of the castle of Puebla de Alcocer on the regional horizon. The place is already listed as a Natural Monument of Extremadura, which reinforces its scenic and geological interest. In local guides and routes it usually appears linked to the botanical path of Masatrigo and the viewpoint of Galizuela, two common accesses to contemplate it calmly. The best time to visit is at dawn or dusk, when the low light enhances the volume of the hill and the reflections on the reservoir. In spring and after periods of filling of the reservoir, the visual effect is usually more striking.
