Centro Iacobeus
42.28879, -4.13532
Description
Centro Iacobeus is a museum or interpretation center dedicated to the Camino de Santiago and the local history of Castrojeriz, in Burgos. It is located at coordinates 42.28879, -4.13532, at Calle Real de Oriente, 57, inside the old church of Santo Domingo, according to the official tourist sources consulted. The space focuses on explaining the Jacobean route through exhibition resources designed to compare the Camino in medieval times and today, as well as the motivations, risks and symbolism associated with the pilgrimage. The Diputación de Burgos and Turismo de Castilla y León present it as an interpretation center with a didactic and familiar vocation. The architectural container, the church of Santo Domingo, has been described by tourist sources as a Gothic building restored for its new exhibition use. Therefore, the heritage interest of the resource combines a museum facility on the Jacobean phenomenon with the reuse of a historic religious building in the historic center of Castrojeriz, a town declared of cultural interest as a historic site.
