Centro de Interpretación de las Salinas

The Centro de Interpretación de las Reales Salinas de Poza de la Sal is a museum dedicated to explaining the history, geology and traditional exploitation of the salt mines of this town in Burgos. It is located in Poza de la Sal, in the province of Burgos, and occupies the former Administration House of the Royal Salt Pans, at C/ El Depósito, s/n, near the salt works. The building was constructed from 1786, during the reign of Charles III, so it responds to the architecture of the century of the Enlightenment. Its installation as a museum center was opened to the public in July 2003, with the aim of disseminating the phenomenon of the salt diapir, the associated industrial heritage and the life of the last salt workers. The site preserves and enhances the value of an asset closely linked to the economic history of Poza de la Sal, whose development was marked for centuries by salt production. The salt works as a whole are also protected as a Historic Site, which reinforces the cultural interest of the resource. Its contents include educational resources such as models, reconstructions, explanatory panels and an interpretive classroom, designed to offer an informative visit about the salt exploitation system and the unique landscape of the diapir.
