Description
The Gorgollón Waterfall is a natural waterfall located in the valley of Faedo, in the council of Cudillero, Asturias, which is accessed by a path from the river environment. It is a small-scale resource, linked to the humid and wooded landscape of the interior of Cudillero, better known for its beaches, and fits into the typology of a low mountain or valley waterfall. What interests the visitor is the waterfall itself and the riverside environment that surrounds it, with a short hiking route that is very popular among those seeking accessible nature. The available descriptions also mention an old mill next to the waterfall, an element that adds scenic and ethnographic value to the whole. Its main attraction is the combination of simple walk, green landscape and end by the water, in an environment suitable for a quiet visit. The sources consulted present it as a low-difficulty route, a good fit for family excursions and to complete a day in the interior of the council. The sources reviewed do not include a specific environmental protection figure for the waterfall or an associated local legend; its interest is mainly natural and scenic, as one of the best-known small landmarks of rural nature in Cudillero.
How to get there
By car: from Cudillero or the Concha de Artedo area, take the road to Faedo on the CU-4; the usual reference is to get to the village and do not trust the GPS if it tries to take you through dead-end tracks. Parking: you usually leave your car in Faedo, near the church or in a curve before the village, as described in several local guides; there is no specific regulated parking. Trail: round trip of about 3.3 to 5 km depending on the chosen route, with 150 to 198 m of elevation gain and easy/low difficulty; the usual time is about 1.5 hours. Footwear: hiking boots or sneakers with grippy soles, because the final stretch can be wet and muddy. Best time: **spring and spring. Best season: spring and autumn. Warnings: avoid following automatic GPS directions; the final access passes next to a watercourse and can become slippery after rainfall.
