Barranco del Reguero Gorge Waterfall
39.89977, -1.00597
Description
The Barranco del Reguero waterfall is a small waterfall and pool associated with the ravine of the same name, in the Hoz de Alpuente, within the municipality of Alpuente (Valencia). It is a natural resource of fluvial and scenic typology, linked to a narrow gorge where the course of the water models walls and bends of great visual interest. The main interest of the place is in the combination of waterfall, pool and gorge, which offers one of the most recognizable scenes of the Narrows of the Reguero Ravine. The environment allows to observe the relief of the ravine, the erosive action of the water and a riverside landscape very conditioned by the valley, with a short route and of simple visit from the nucleus of Alpuente. Due to its location and the quality of the whole, it is an outstanding point within the natural attractions of the municipality. The sources consulted place it as one of the most beautiful corners of the Hoz de Alpuente and describe it as a pool and waterfall in a narrow section of the ravine. It should be taken into account that it is not a space prepared as a bathing area and that the access runs through a narrow and uneven environment, so it is of particular interest to visitors seeking scenery, photography and reading of the territory rather than intensive recreational use.
How to get there
By car: from Alpuente, go out towards the area of La Hoz and the Ethnological Museum; the usual start of the trail is next to the old oven converted into a museum. Parking: park in the village or in the vicinity of the start of the route, depending on availability; no specific parking lot is mentioned. Trail: short round trip, less than 1 hour; other descriptions of the area speak of routes of about 12 km if the ravine is completed with variants of the GR-37. Footwear: boots or hiking shoes with good grip, because there are narrow sections and descents with some exposure. Best season: spring and days after rains, when the waterfall has more flow. Warnings: it is not an area suitable for bathing according to the sources consulted; be careful with children, with heavy loads and with the road surface if it is wet.
