The Herrería Waterfall, also known as the Hidden Waterfall, is an approximately 8-meter-high waterfall that plunges into the Cabriel River near El Vallecillo, in the Sierra de Albarracín mountain range in the province of Teruel. The watercourse that feeds this area originates at the natural springs known as the Ojos del Cabriel, where water emerges from underground, creating springs of icy-cold, clear water that maintain the river’s flow even during periods of low rainfall. The waterfall’s name derives from its proximity to the ruins of an old 16th-century blacksmith’s shop, located next to the falls, which adds a historical element to the natural landscape. The surroundings combine rock, riverside vegetation, and constant humidity, transforming the place into a secluded, cool, and deeply evocative spot, ideal for quiet contemplation. The waterfall is located within the Cabriel Valley Biosphere Reserve, recognized by UNESCO, which ensures its protection and conservation. It is especially recommended to visit in spring and fall, when the water flows more strongly after rains, or on days following recent rainfall, provided that the access path is not affected by mud. The best time of day is in the morning, when the light gently falls on the waterfall and the surroundings are at their most peaceful.
