la Cimbarra Waterfall

The Cascada de la Cimbarra is the main waterfall of the Paraje Natural Cascada de la Cimbarra, in Aldeaquemada, formed by the Guarrizas river over materials very resistant to erosion. The Andalusian board places this protected area in 558.24 hectares and highlights its geological, scenic and cultural interest due to the presence of rock art in the environment. The main fall is usually quoted at around 40 meters high, although the water level varies greatly depending on the season. From the point of visit a well-known frontal view of the waterfall is obtained, with the vertical rocky wall and the open gorge in the eastern Sierra Morena. The place is interesting because of the combination of water, rock and Mediterranean forest, and because it allows us to understand how erosion has excavated this stretch of the valley. In the place there are also other waterfalls and pools associated with the same river system, such as Cimbarrillo and María Antonia. It is a place especially grateful after rains, when the flow enhances the jump and the sound of water. In dry season the landscape is still interesting, but the waterfall may show less flow. The declaration as a natural place and the proximity to Despeñaperros and Aldeaquemada give it a very recognized value within the natural routes of Jaén.
