Description
The Julián Gayarre House-Museum is a museum dedicated to the memory of the Roncal tenor Julián Gayarre, located in the neighborhood of Arana de Roncal, Navarra, in the house where the artist was born. It is a historic house adapted to a museum function, directly linked to the singer's biography and to the conservation of his personal and documentary heritage. The building was extended by Gayarre himself in 1879 over the house in which he was born, and was later converted into a museum, inaugurated in 1990. The typology of the resource is, therefore, that of a museum-home or house-museum, rather than that of a monumental building with a defined architectural style; the sources consulted do not specify a specific stylistic language for the construction. The permanent exhibition is organized on several floors and gathers personal objects, photographs, scores, decorations, costumes and documentation related to his artistic career. The exhibition provides a chronological overview of the life and career of one of the great tenors of the 19th century, closely linked to the cultural identity of Roncal and the Pyrenean valley of Navarre. The management of the center is linked to the Julián Gayarre Foundation, created with the participation of the tenor's family, the Roncal Town Council and the Government of Navarre, with the aim of preserving and disseminating his legacy.
