Description
The Pizarro House-Museum is a historical museum dedicated to Francisco Pizarro, located in Trujillo (Cáceres), in Calleja del Castillo, with coordinates near 39.46135, -5.88418. The official tourist information presents it as the family home of the conqueror and an exhibition space focused on his life and the figure of the Pizarro family. The building is linked to a manor house from the 15th century, according to different tourist and informative sources; therefore, its origin corresponds to the end of the Middle Ages, although the museum function is much more recent. According to these same references, the museum was established in 1992 on the occasion of the V Centenary of the Discovery of America. The visit is organized through objects, furniture, documents and recreations that review the childhood, youth and career of Pizarro, as well as the context of the conquest of America. Highlights include the façade with the Pizarro coat of arms, an interior courtyard and the two-story layout, with a historical setting on the lower floor and contents dedicated to the conquest and the Inca world on the upper floor. Due to its location in the historic center of Trujillo, the House-Museum is part of the heritage associated with the birthplace of several conquerors from Extremadura. Its main interest is historical and biographical, rather than architectural, combining the preservation of a late medieval manor house with a museography focused on the memory of Francisco Pizarro.
