Description
The Casa Maestral is a historic building in Llerena, in the province of Badajoz, Extremadura, identified as a heritage resource of typology "other" for its use and function within the urban area. It is a house linked to the presence of the masters of the Order of Santiago in the city, and its promoter was the master Don Lorenzo Suárez de Figueroa. According to the sources consulted, the building corresponds to a stately and administrative residence related to the santiaguista power in Llerena, a municipality with a strong historical imprint and declared a Historic-Artistic Site. The available documentation does not specify with sufficient precision its century of construction nor a defined architectural style, so it is advisable not to attribute a closed chronology to it without additional documentary support. The building was acquired by the City Council of Llerena in 2004 and restored between 2007 and 2008, reopening in 2009 as a rehabilitated space for public use. Today it is part of the local heritage as a testimony of the period in which Llerena was an important center of the Order of Santiago and of the historical urban organization of the town.
