Cala del Plomo is an open and relatively wide cove in the Natural Park of Cabo de Gata-Níjar, in the municipality of Níjar, formed by a small cove of about 200 meters long with a mixture of pebbles, sand and calm waters. Its edge is defined by reef limestone and the slopes of the Rambla del Plomo, an environment of great geological and scenic interest within the coast of Almería. From the shore you can appreciate a dry and very exposed landscape, with walls modeled by erosion and remains of fossil dunes in the nearby sectors. The water is usually clear and progressive entry, which favors swimming and activities such as snorkeling in the rocky areas. It is also common that the cove retains a quiet atmosphere due to its isolation from urban centers. Its interest is not only recreational: it is included in the special zoning of the natural park and appears regularly in coastal guides of Cabo de Gata for its natural value and the contrast between the coast and the interior wadi. The access also crosses the environment of the Fortified Cortijo de la Rambla del Plomo, linked to the historical protection of the field against coastal incursions. The best time to visit it is usually the spring and the beginning of autumn, when the heat is more bearable and the color of the water maintains good visibility. In summer it can be quite crowded, while in winter the landscape is more serene and the wind can condition the stay.
