Cabo Ortegal is a rocky outcrop on the north coast of A Coruña, in the municipality of Cariño, where the relief falls steeply into the sea and opens a wide panoramic view over the Atlantic and the cliffy coast of the Serra da Capelada. The environment stands out for its unique geology, with very ancient outcrops and basic and ultrabasic rocks frequently cited in the guides of the area. As a natural viewpoint, it allows to contemplate the cliff front, the islets and the coastline that accompanies the cape, as well as the feeling of the end of the land so typical of this Galician sector. On clear days the strength of the relief can be appreciated very well and, on misty days, the place gains a more dramatic and marine character. The area appears prominently in official routes of Tourism of Galicia and in landscape itineraries of the coast of Ortegal, which reinforces its interest as a landmark of visit in the region. It is also often associated with the lighthouse of Cabo Ortegal, which acts as a visual reference of the enclave. The best time to visit is usually in clear weather or low afternoon light, when the contrast between rock, sea and cliff is clearer. In winter and on rough sea days the landscape is more intense, although extreme caution should be taken due to wind, humidity and exposed terrain.
