Description

The Boca del Infierno is a natural gorge in the valley of Ansó, in the surroundings of Siresa and the entrance to the Selva de Oza, formed by the erosive action of the Aragón Subordán river on the limestone rock. The sources consulted place it as a short but very narrow gorge, about 1.5 kilometers long, with an abrupt relief and a narrow pass of great scenic strength. The coordinates provided coincide with this Pyrenean enclave in Huesca, Aragon. The most striking thing is the landscape of rock, water and forest, with the river embedded between walls and blocks, and the intense rumor of the riverbed, which gives meaning to the name of the place. It is interesting for its geological and scenic value, and also because it marks the natural access to the Selva de Oza, one of the best known landscapes in the valley. In the area you can go hiking and, in the right season, canyoning in the ravine itself. Its relevance is both natural and touristic: it is mentioned in guides and nature routes of the Aragonese Pyrenees and is part of the Natural Park of the Western Valleys, shared by the valleys of Hecho and Ansó. There is no specific local legend in the sources reviewed; its main interest is the spectacular nature of the gorge and its role as a landscape threshold of the valley.

How to get there

By car: from Ansó head towards Hecho/Siresa and follow the access road to Selva de Oza until the turnoff to Puente de Santa Ana y Gabardito; the site is in the vicinity of the valley road.[10 Parking: the small esplanade or the margins next to the turnoff and the road are usually used; there is no specific formal parking area in the sources consulted.[9 Trail: for the classic visit route, the hiking guide describes a circular route of 7.7 km and 425 m of elevation gain, with about 3 h of walking. For the sport canyon descent, the references speak of short approach and short return, but with technical material. Footwear: boots or hiking shoes with good soles; if entering the canyon, technical equipment and thermal protection. Best season: Spring and Summer. Best season: spring and fall. Warnings: mountain section with uneven ground, possible humidity and slippery rock; canyoning depends on the flow and is not suitable for all visitors.
